The Brothers of the Middle Western Province are encouraged to regularly submit articles, photographs and items of interest to the province newsletter, The Middlewesterner, for publication. Items should be submitted as soon as possible, but must be received by the Editor no later than the monthly deadline if the item is to be placed in the upcoming issue. The following are points of interest offered to assist in the preparation of items for submission. Please note that these guidelines are in accordance with those provided for submitting items to The Journal:
General
- Present the facts for each news article. Remember to tell who, what, when, and where for news items. Include complete names of participants, activities, and locations. Also provide the specific date and time for events.
- For individual achievement articles, include the complete name of the Brother being featured and the complete honor recently achieved. Also, include the Brother's current chapter of membership as well as his chapter and year of initiation. Please specify if the Brother holds a chapter, province or international office; is a member of a Grand Chapter Committee or Commission; or holds one of the Fraternity's awards.
- For Chapter Invisible entries, please include the Brother's complete name, date of passing, and last chapter of affiliation. If known, include the chapter and year of initiation and any biographical information available.
- Submit articles to The Middlewesterner by the 25th of each month in order to have the item placed in the subsequent month's edition.
Reminders
- Brothers should not use the unofficial, three-fingered recognition sign in photographs. If the sign appears anywhere in the picture, it will be removed (if possible) or the photograph will not be used.
- Duly note 50-Year Members in the text of the articles.
- Do not use "Brother" in reference to a member mentioned in the article. It is assumed that all personalities mentioned are members of the Fraternity unless the name is preceded by "Mr." or some other notation.
- Items submitted to The Journal should also be submitted to The Middlewesterner.
Submitting Items
- Items can be mailed to: Merrell R. Bennekin, 635 Woodland Ave, Suite 2102, Kansas City, Missouri 64106. Please mark the chapter's name and any other pertinent information on the back of all photographs. Be sure to indicate the names and titles of persons on each photograph. Also, submit an e-mail address and/or telephone number(s) for the person submitting the item for publication.
- E-mailed articles may be submitted to Reporter@KAPsiMWP.com. Submit text files (articles) in separate files from image files (photographs).
- Text files may be submitted in Microsoft Word or Corel Word Perfect as attachments. Image files should be submitted in JPEG format, but if that is not possible The Middlewesterner has the capacity to convert it. Please note, however, that this is not guaranteed! Do not embed image files in a text document as there is a chance that the file will become corrupted.
- When submitting items via e-mail, simply put "Item for The Middlewesterner" in the subject line.
