My Brothers:
It Just Gets Better With Time, at least according to one of my favorite tunes by the Whispers. I have come to truly believe that phrase, especially when it comes to Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and most definitely it applies to the Middle Western Province. A brother recently asked me what I most liked about the job of Province Polemarch and what I disliked the most about the position. I replied, I most like the enlightenment about our organization, having my Walt Disney glasses slapped off my face with the reality of Kappa Alpha Psi in it's true essence. I dislike the fact that having seen the essence of Kappa Alpha Psi today, that no matter how vivid the description and facts I share, some brothers still don't get IT, refuse to believe IT, or intentionally don't accept IT. And The Beat Goes On - that's another Whisper's tune!!!
Hopefully, by now, all our chapters have met at least once since their summer recess, and things are starting to take shape. For those that have yet to reunite I look forward to having you back in the saddle. We are coming together on the heels of an outstanding Conclave in Charlotte. We reached or exceeded our registration goals, and I feel confident that financially speaking our cash flow and net are positive.
Conclave for me started with the Council of Province Polemarchs Dinner. It is at this event we honor those members of our Council who retired from the position of Province Polemarch since the last Grand Chapter Meeting in Cleveland. You might not be aware, but since our meeting in Charlotte we have had some additional retirements from the Council. Currently, there is only one other Province Polemarch remaining on the Council that I have served with over the past four years, the Southern Province Polemarch. I feel like a neophyte all over again despite the fact that I'm now the second most senior member of our Council. I'm going to miss my colleagues.
As The Beat Goes On. If you did not attend the comedy show or the Grand Chapter concert, let me tell you, OUTSTANDING is the only way to put it. My ribs are still healing from laughing so hard, and my feet won't forget the groove from the concert. The talent for both events was so good when I think about what I paid for my tickets I look over my shoulder for the police, I feel like I was stealing. Of course, we did take care of some business also. Several of the proposed amendments to our National Constitution and Statutes were adopted. One of those that failed would have reduced the circulation of our award winning "Journal" to three times a year versus the four we have now. Following my remarks is a posting of all the amendments that were adopted. One of the items that was approved that we need to pay immediate attention to deals with a Grand Chapter Dues increase and an increase in the Initiation fees. Following my message is an exhibit on both items.
We even elected the team for the future. I asked you to support what I felt would be the team to continue to move Kappa into the future, and you responded accordingly - THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT. Our Grand Polemarch has kicked off a series of "Chat With The Grand Polemarch" sessions on the Internet. He began with the Northern Province. The Grand Polemarch will be chatting in a moderated discussion room, and the chats will be by invitation to only one Province at a time. Provinces are required to provide a Province email list to our Grand Chapter Web Master. A chat invitation is extended to the Province, our Province Web Master will inform the Province with respect to date and time, a secured web link will be released via the province email list, and the chat will commence from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. (EST) on the third Wednesday of the month. Our administration is hard at work. Following my message is a listing (below) of those elected to office in Charlotte. I would truly be remiss if I didn't pay special attention to the fact that our Province is represented on this team, Brother Phillip Hodges of the Eta Chapter was elected to the Grand Board of Directors.
It Just Gets Better With Time. After serving several years as our Junior Grand Vice Polemarch, Brother Steven Pritchett gave the address of his life at our closed banquet, and Brother Melvin Sanders, Polemarch of St. Louis Alumni, received the torch from Charlotte Alumni. Your Province took FIRST PLACE for content in the Web Site competition (Brother "Ceedy" Morgan never sleeps), and we all rededicated ourselves to our fundamental purpose.
As The Beat Goes On. It's Friday now, I don't know where the hell I'm at, no sleep, too much to eat, I need a Vodka Martini neat!!! It's picnic time and the buses are rolling, and you arrived at a well organized serving line of fresh fish served piping hot on the spot. I've died and gone to heaven. (Despite what some of you might think, I'm in!) On Saturday night, I had changed into my Sunday best and went balling (you undergraduates have such a dirty mind), I attended our Grand Ball, after dancing the night away with the only woman I love (points, points) I think it's safe to say I had a good time.
It Just Gets Better With Time. I am making a few changes to our committee structure, following my message is our new lineup of committee chairmen and other appointed positions. We should be preparing for our upcoming C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference in Oklahoma City this November, hosted by our Epsilon Gamma Chapter. There are a number of time tables, items, etc., etc., etc.; things that all our chapters should be doing by now. Please pay close attention to the exhibit detailing the administrative items required for chapters following this message.
In closing, I just realized I lied about what I most liked about the job of Province Polemarch. It's knowing each and every one of you that makes this job rewarding. My name is Adolphus Morris Pruitt, II and I'm Working For You, What's Your Pleasure?
Yours in the Bond,
Adolphus M. Pruitt, II
