75th Grand Conclave (National Convention)

Cleveland Convention Center - Cleveland, Ohio

Open Public Events:

Tuesday, August 7th

9:00am — 2:00pm — Kappa Golf Tournament, at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course

This shotgun start golf tournament is open to the public. Four flights for any skill level of competition. "A" flight, "B" flight, "C" flight and a Seniors flight. The entry fee is $125.00 per golfer and includes: green fees, continental breakfast, lunch at the turn, and dinner. For more information, please contact Linwood Smith at 216-921-8627. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the winners.

Johnny Newman Basketball Clinic — Cleveland State University

This event will be held on the campus of Cleveland State University in the Woodland Gym and is open to kids ages 5 — 15. It is free. NBA stars Johnny Newman, Alan Henderson and Alan Houston (all members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.) is schedule to participate. 7:00pm - 9:30pm - The Public Meeting, held at the Public Auditorium/Convention Center

This event is open to the Public and is designed to allow the community to welcome Kappa to Cleveland and for Kappa to recognize outstanding community Leaders & organizations. At this time a special presentation in the amount of $15,000 will be made to the Karamu House. Retired Congressman Louis Stokes will receive The Laurel Wreath Award, the fraternity’s highest award given to any member. Additionally each of the members of the Pan-Hellenic Council will make a special presentation and welcome Kappa to Cleveland.

10:00pm - 2:00am - Get Acquainted Dance, held at The Cleveland Convention Center...Hall D

This dance is primarily geared towards our Undergraduate Brothers (30 & younger). It is opened to the public and is free of charge. Casual attire (jeans, tennis shoes are acceptable)

10:00pm - 2:00am - Prime Time Party at the Touch Supper Club (2710 Lorain Avenue near West Side Market)

This activity is for the 30 and over crowd. There is a $5.00 cover charge. Two floors of activity scheduled. The first floor will feature dancing. There will be live entertainment, food and beverage available on the 2nd floor.

7:30pm - 9:30pm - Grand Chapter Awards Program, at The Public Auditorium/Convention Center

At this program, the fraternity will award its membership and chapters for outstanding service and dedication during the past two years. It is open to the public and is free of charge.

8:00pm-10:30pm — Kappa Boatride, Part Deuce aboard the Good Times III - East 9th Street Pier

The second of two boatrides held this summer for the local Chapter. This boatride is open to the public and will cruise the shores of Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga River. For our patrons’ enjoyment there will be three floors of non-stop action. The 1st floor will feature ‘old school music’, the 2nd floor will have ‘hip-hop’ and the open air 3rd level will feature a live jazz band. Tickets are on sale now for $30.00.

10:00pm -12:00 Midnight - Kappa Comedy Show...Little Theater/Convention Center

Professional Comedians, who are members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., will entertain the crowd at the Music Hall. There is no cover charge for this event. Comedians include the following: ‘Swav-Bob’ Demby from Gary, Indiana, Robert C. Duckworth from California, Rick Younger from Washington D.C. and Thomas ‘T-Ray’ Sanders from Atlanta.

10:00pm-3:00am - Johnnie Newman Sports Jam Party & Silent Auction - Mirage on the Water Night Club

Johnnie Newman, NBA basketball player for the Phoenix Suns and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity is hosting a ‘Nupe Sports Jam’. Several NBA players, including Penny Hardiway and Alan Houston (both Kappa Alpha Psi Members) are scheduled to attend. Sports memorabilia will be available for the silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation. Tickets are $10.00. No jeans or tennis shoes allowed. A Disc Jockey spinning the latest tunes will help set the night away.

12:00Noon - 2:00pm - Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation Luncheon — Sheraton City Centre Hotel (777 St. Clair Avenue — downtown)

Lerone Bennett Jr. of Ebony Magazine will be the featured keynote speaker for this foundation luncheon fundraising event. It will be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel. Tickets are available for $60.00 and are tax deductible. Tickets are limited so be sure to reserve you spot today.

8:00pm — Conclave Concert…featuring The O’ Jays at the Cleveland Convention Center

Cleveland’s own O’Jays will headline the Grand Chapter Concert held in the Convention Center’s Public Auditorium. This open to the public cabaret style event is sure to be an enjoyable time for all. 9:00pm — 3:00am Young Life-Style Party at the Millennium Night Club

This event is for the 30 & under set. Tickets are available at the door for $15.00. A concert featuring Little Zane will also be included within your admission price. Tickets sold at the door.

10:00PM-2:30AM Jazz Walk Around...Downtown - Club 75, & Sixth Street Downunder

This event is designed to let you enjoy the beautiful setting of downtown Cleveland at night, while enjoying two different jazz clubs downtown. One admission price will get you into two locations, each with their own different flavor and each featuring a different local jazz band. One admission ticket priced at $10.00 will get you into both locations.

2:00pm — 6:00pm Picnic-on-the-Water, at Edgewater State Park

Come out and join Kappa as we have good food, fun & sun at the Edgewater State Park. Swimming is optional if you so chose, so feel free to wear your swimming wear. This event is open to the public. Hotdogs, hamburgers, sodas and more will be made available for free. Music will be provided for plenty of dancing. So be prepared for a "Kappa Beach Party"…Cleveland Style! Admission is free! Fun for the entire family.

 

9:00pm-2:00am - Kappa Extravaganza at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

This event is planned to be the biggest, most spectacular event during the convention week. Over 3,000 people are expected to attend. Tickets are $25.00 in advance and will feature live in concert Mr. Dave Hollister. Hors d’oeuvres will be available along with a cash bar. With your admission ticket, you will gain access to the entire Rock Hall of Fame to view all of the exhibits they have on display. Attire for this historic event is to the NINES! So, please dress to impress!!!!

 

10:00pm-2:00am - Young Life-Style Party — Gray’s Armory (1234 Bolivar Road)

Geared for the 30 & under crowd, this is an alternate event for those not wishing to attend the Rock Hall spectacular. Tickets are $10.00. A disc jockey will provide the most up to date tunes.

Saturday, August 11th

3:00pm - 5:00pm Cleveland Convention Center

Health Educational Seminar, Dr. Edward Wilson M.d.

2:00pm-6:00pm Young Life Style Picnic, at Mall C

This open to the public free picnic will be held at Voinovich State Park, which is located directly behind the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Live entertainment, along with food & beverage will be made available to those in attendance. Plenty of music, food & fun will be happening.

5:00pm -7:00pm Kappa Choir Concert...Convention Center - Little Theater

Brothers from all over the country assemble and unite in one large choir for a Kappa song festival. Fraternity songs, gospel songs and lots more will be performed. A truly enjoyable event for the entire family. This event is free.

6:00pm - 8:30pm Kappa Step Show... Convention Center Public Auditorium

Chapters from around the country will perform at this Kappa Only Step Show. Open to the public, there is a $10.00 cover charge.

9:00pm-2:00am Grand Chapter Closed Ball at the Cleveland Convention Center, Public Auditorium

This formal affair is NOT open to the public, unless a registered delegate from the Convention, accompanies you to the Ball.

10:00pm-2:00am Monte Carlo Night at the Convention Center — Room 230

This event is open to the public. Las Vegas style gaming, dancing, food and fun. Tickets are $15.00, and are on sale now. Come out and take your chances on "Lady Luck". Black Jack, slot machines, craps and more. Chances to win great prizes, including the Grand Prize…a weekend trip to the Caribbean.
