August 31, 2005 My Brothers in Phi Nu Pi, At 11:47 a.m. (CST), I got off of the Grand Polemarch's urgent conference call to discuss and orchestrate help for the brothers and victims of Hurricane Katrina. Those on the conference call were the Grand Board of Directors and other key committee chairmen, International Headquarters staff, and the Council of Province Polemarchs. The Grand Polemarch has requested that monetary donations from any individual member, chapter or province be sent to the Kappa Foundation, earmarked for the Katrina Relief Fund. The dollars from the Kappa Foundation will be used to help our numerous brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi that have been devastated by this horrific natural disaster. It is the intent of this disaster relief fund to help our Kappa brothers and their immediate families first. So that we can make an accounting of our assistance to the victims of Hurricane Katrina, I request that any monetary donations be sent to:
Katrina Relief Fund 636 Northeast 36th Street Oklahoma City, OK 73105
Second, chapters are requested to begin thinking about collecting food, water, clothing, hygiene products, and any other necessary items to assist the hurricane victims. Our plan is to send these items to "staging areas" in Port Arthur, Texas and Mobile, Alabama. As soon as the exact locations are determined, we will give you the address in those cities where you may ship items to the designated staging areas. In the meantime, items may be shipped to our Province Headquarters at the above address, and the province will be responsible for getting those items to the staging areas. Again, brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi and their immediate families will be given the highest priority. Our Senior Grand Vice Polemarch, Brother Dwayne Murray, who resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has painted a very bleak picture of the mass destruction associated with Hurricane Katrina. Please send your prayers to the victims of this great disaster!
Yours in the Bond, |
