On October 16, 2005 Wiliam E. Hines, M.D., M.S, Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc, and Life Member of the Middle Western Province, Trustee National Medical Association, Professional Board Member Emeritus of the Student National Medical Association was elected President of the University of Missouri-Columbia Medical School Foundation. The Foundation Board is a twenty-one member Board of Alumni of the School of Medicine, etc. He becomes the first African American in the history of the foundation to serve a one year term as President. The Foundation has assets of $3.5 million held directly and several millions of dollars of endowments for which it is indirectly responsible which were given to the University. In 1994, years before becoming a member of the Foundation Board, Dr. Hines established the first Endowment in the history of the University of Missouri-Columbia for Minority Medical Students. His first initiative will be to increase scholarships to help increase diversity by raising $250,000 for medical students with an emphasis on minority medical students. In the past a Chancellor of the University contributed $100,000 personally to this endowment. Contributions may be sent to the University of Missouri-Columbia, Medical School Foundation, University of Missouri One Hospital Drive DC 205.00, Columbia, MO 65212. Please memo Minority Medical Student Endowment on your check. Also, on November 12, 2005, William E. Hines, M.D.,M.S. will accept the 2005 Salute to BlackMen Award for "Excellence in Medicine" from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Omicron Eta Omega Chapter.
